About The Glasgow Gospel

The DVD production of The Glasgow Gospel came about one winter evening when Jamie Stuart, indomitable author of A Glasgow Bible met Jane and Glen Collie.

In the early 1990’s the Church of Scotland television department produced a VHS version of some of the new testament stories from Jamie’s best-selling book, but stocks had long-since been depleted and technology has moved on.

Jamie’s initial question was whether the now long-in-the-tooth version could somehow be put onto a DVD, and the easy answer to that was “nope”. What followed was much discussion and a search for funding in order to get a new version The Glasgow Gospel off the ground and into production. Glen and Jane took Jamie up onto a hill near his home in the East End of Glasgow and recorded the first story, together with a request for people interested in helping with the project to come forward.

The breakthrough came when the Scottish Bible Society and the Church of Scotland Mission and Discipleship Committee offered sufficient funds to guarantee that Collie Productions could cover the cost of tape stock, sandwiches and the duplication of the first couple of thousand copies of the finished production.

The Glasgow Gospel was now up and running.

Collie Productions began to contact well kent Glasgow personalities (some of whom had been in the original programme) to put together a cast. To cut a long story short, a year and a half on, there is a DVD... an exciting re-telling of

the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ, and many new friendships amongst the great number of people who have participated and helped out along the way.

Jamie, the cast and crew and Jane and Glen now hope that you will purchase a copy of The Glasgow Gospel for yourself, and perhaps one or two extra for your friends. In this way we can look forward to the “next thrilling instalment”. After all, there are a lot more wonderful stories waiting to be told.
